NOTICE OF SUSPENSION (By Consent)

Case Nos. 11-127 -GA; 11-138-GA Notice Issued: March 13, 2012

Jeffrey S. Newton, P 41537, Birmingham, Michigan, by the Attorney Discipline Board Tri-County Hearing Panel #68.

1. Suspension - 30 Days 2. Effective January 1, 2012' The respondent and the Grievance Administrator filed a stipulation for a consent order of discipline, in accordance with MCR 9.115(F)(5). The stipulation was approved by the Attorney

Grievance Commission and was accepted by the hearing panel. The stipulation contains respondent's plea of no contest to the allegations that he engaged in the unauthorized practice of law in violation of MRPC 5.5(a) and (b); failed to notify active clients of the suspension of his license to practice law, in violation of MCR 9.119(A); failed to notify the tribunal and all parties involved in pending litigation of the suspension of his license to practice; in violation of MCR

9.119(B); failed to provide proof of compliance with MCR 9.119, in violation of MCR 9.119(C); practice law while suspended, in violation of MCR 9.119(E)(1); appeared as an attorney before a court while suspended, in violation of MCR 9.119(E)(2); engaged in conduct that violates the standards or rules of professional responsibility adopted by the Supreme Court, in violation of MCR

9.104(4); violated an order of discipline, contrary to MCR 9.104(9); and violated or attempted to violate the Rules of Professional Conduct, contrary to MRPC 8.4(a).

The hearing panel ordered that respondent's license to practice law in Michigan be suspended for 30 days, retroactive to January 1, 2012. Costs were assessed in the amount of $943.55.
