Suspension - 9 Months Effective August 31, 2006
Respondent was found to be in default for his failure to file an answer to the formal complaint or to appear at the public hearing. Based on that default, the hearing panel found that respondent, in an immigration matter, handled a matter which he was not competent to handle; handled the legal matter without preparation adequate in the circumstances; neglected the legal matter; and failed to act with reasonable diligence and promptness in representing his client.
Respondent=s conduct was in violation of MCR 9.104(A)(1)-(4); and Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1(a)-(c); 1.3; 8.4(a) and (c). The hearing panel ordered that respondent=s license to practice in Michigan be suspended for nine months. Costs were assessed in the amount of $1,706.75.
