Effective June 17, 2006 Respondent was convicted of theft of government property less than $1,000.00, a misdemeanor, in violation of 18 USC _ 641 in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan. Respondent was sentenced to two years probation, community service and payment of a $5,000.00 fine.
In discipline proceedings based upon that conviction, the respondent stipulated that, between April and July 2002, while employed as an Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor, he instructed two interns to assist him in adding to an existing political database during working hours and using government-owned property. In consideration of the relevant aggravating and mitigating factors, the hearing panel ordered the suspension of respondent=s license to practice law in Michigan for 30 days. Costs were assessed in the amount of $2,240.92.
