Effective March 22, 2006 The hearing panel found that respondent handled a legal matter without preparation adequate in the circumstances; and failed to have a written contingency agreement. In two matters, respondent failed to act with reasonable diligence and promptness; failed to keep his clients reasonably informed about the status of their matters and to respond to their requests for information; and failed to explain the matters to his clients to the extent necessary to permit his clients to make informed decisions.
Respondent=s conduct was in violation MCR 8.121(F) and Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1(b) and (c); 1.3; 1.4(a) and (b); and 1.5(c).
The hearing panel ordered that respondent be reprimanded and be subject to a condition relevant to the established misconduct. Costs were assessed in the amount of $2,966.97.
