NOTICE OF SUSPENSION Case No. 20-23-RD Notice Issued: June 11, 2020 Jerry James Bishop, II, P 46707, Toledo, Ohio, by the Attorney Discipline Board. Suspension - One Year, Effective May 21, 2020 The Grievance Administrator filed a notice of filing of reciprocal discipline pursuant to MCR 9.120(C) that attached a certified copy of a December 24, 2019 order from the Supreme Court of Ohio in a matter titled Toledo Bar Association v Jerry James Bishop, II, Ohio Supreme Court Case No. 2019-0804 that suspended respondent’s license to practice law in Ohio for two years with the second year stayed on the condition that respondent not engage in further misconduct.

An order regarding imposition of reciprocal discipline was issued by the Board on March 13, 2020, ordering the parties to, within 21 days from service of the order, inform the Board in writing (i) of any objection to the imposition of comparable discipline in Michigan based on the grounds set forth in MCR 9.120(C)(1) and (ii) whether a hearing was requested. The 21 day period discussed in MCR 9.120(C)(2)(b) expired without objection or a request for a hearing by either party. Pursuant to MCR 9.120(C)(6), respondent was deemed to be in default with the same effect as a default in a civil action.

On April 22, 2020, the Attorney Discipline Board ordered that respondent’s license to practice law in Michigan be suspended for one year, effective May 21, 2020. On May 4, 2020, respondent filed a Motion to Reconsider Commencement Date of Suspension requesting that the effective date of the one year suspension of his license to practice law in Michigan be amended to coincide with the effective date of the order of suspension issued by the Supreme Court of Ohio, December 24, 2019. In an order dated June 8, 2020, the Board denied respondent’s motion. Costs were assessed in the amount of $1,508.20.
