1. Revocation; 2. Effective January 30, 2003. 1 The hearing panel found, by default, that respondent, in a divorce matter, failed to respond to discovery requests; failed to conduct the necessary discovery; failed to file responsive pleadings or contest the defense motion to compel discovery; failed to keep his client reasonably informed of the status of the matter; and failed to advise his client that he had not transmitted discovery responses to the defense. Respondent also continued to practice law while suspended; made a false statement to his client regarding the status of his suspension; failed to provide written notice to his client, the court, and opposing counsel of his suspension; and failed to file the requisite affidavit regarding notification of suspension with the Attorney Grievance Commission and the Attorney Discipline Board. Finally, respondent failed to file an answer to a request for investigation served by the Grievance Administrator.
Respondent=s conduct was in violation of MCR 9.104(A)(1)-(4), (7), and (9); MCR 9.113(A); MCR 9.113(B); and Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1(a)-(c); 1.2(a); 1.3; 1.4(a); 3.2; 5.5(a); and 8.4(a)-(c). The panel issued an order revoking respondent's license to practice law in Michigan, to run concurrently with the revocation currently in effect in Grievance Administrator v Darryl L. Orr. Costs were assessed in the amount of $1,712.56.
