NOTICE OF REPRIMAND (By Consent)
Case No. 01-143-GA Notice Issued: September 6, 2002 Lawrence S. Katkowsky, P-15740, Bingham Farms, Michigan, by the Attorney Discipline Board Tri-County Hearing Panel #62.
1. Reprimand; 2. Effective September 6, 2002. The respondent and the Grievance Administrator filed a stipulation for a consent order of discipline, in accordance with MCR 9.115(F)(5), containing the respondent's plea of no contest to charges that respondent, in one personal injury matter, failed to advise his client of his decision not to accept the case and commence litigation until after the statute of limitations had expired; and, in a second personal injury matter, failed to adequately supervise a non-lawyer assistant; and failed to ensure that his paralegal (non-lawyer assistant) advised his client of his decision not to pursue the matter. Respondent was charged with violations of MCR 9.104(A)(1) and (4); and Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 1.4(a) and (b); 5.3(b); and 8.4(a) and (c). The parties agreed that respondent should be reprimanded. Costs were assessed in the amount of $336.13.
