The hearing panel found that respondent failed to perform the service for which he had been retained; failed to return an unearned fee; filed a false answer to the Request for Investigation served by the Grievance Administrator; failed to comply with a court order to file a trial brief; failed to appear for trial; and in two matters, failed to communicate to his clients the status of their matters. Respondent's conduct was in violation of MCR 9.104(A)(1)-(4); MCR 9.113(A); and Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1(c); 1.3; 1.4(a); 1.15(b); 1.16(d); and 8.4(a) and (c).
The hearing panel ordered that respondent=s license be suspended for 180 days and that he pay restitution in the amount of $6,000.00. Costs were assessed in the amount of $848.45.
