Effective August 27, 2001. 1 The hearing panel found that, in a divorce matter, respondent forged his client=s signature on a check; misappropriated the client=s funds; commingled his client=s funds with his personal funds; and made false claims in his answer to a Request for Investigation served by the Grievance Administrator. In a civil action, respondent failed to institute an action on his client=s behalf; failed to keep his client advised of the status of the matter; and made false statements to his client regarding the status of the matter.
Respondent's conduct was found to be in violation of MCR 9.103(C); MCR 9.104(A)(1)-(6); MCR 9.113(A); and Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1(a)-(c); 1.3; 1.4; 1.15(a)-(c); 3.2; and 8.4(a)-(c). The panel issued an order revoking respondent's license to practice in Michigan and ordering restitution in the aggregate amount of $332,138.57. Costs were assessed in the amount of $515.66.
