The respondent and the Grievance Administrator filed a stipulation for a consent order of discipline in accordance with MCR 9.115(f)(5) which was approved by the Attorney Grievance Commission and accepted by the hearing panel. Respondent pled no contest to the charges set forth in the judgment of conviction entered against him in Formal Complaint 01-37-JC, specifically: That respondent had been convicted of extortion, a felony, in violation of MCL 750.213 in the Kalamazoo County Circuit Court. The parties agreed that an order of suspension should be entered retroactive to the date of conviction, December 19, 2000.
The hearing panel ordered that respondent=s license be suspended for one year and costs were assessed in the amount of $72.60.
1 Respondent's license was automatically suspended upon his felony conviction. See MCR 9.120(B)(1). That interim suspension has been in effect since December 19, 2000.
