1) Reprimand; 2) Effective August 20, 1997. Respondent was retained to represent the complainant in a legal malpractice action. Respondent offered a plea of no contest to allegations that he neglected the matter and made statements to the complainant which were false, and were known by respondent to have been false at the time they were made, in attempts to conceal his neglect. Respondent's conduct was found to be in violation of Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 1.4 and 8.4(c).
The panel ordered that respondent be reprimanded, with conditions including the monitoring of his law practice. Costs are assessed in the amount of $579.28.
