1) Revocation; 2) Effective January 8, 1997. On January 8, 1997, respondent was convicted in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, by guilty plea, of Unlawful Distribution of Prescription Drug Controlled Substances. In accordance with MCR 9.120(B)(1), respondent was automatically suspended from the practice of law in Michigan effective January 8, 1997, the date of the felony conviction. Upon the filing of a certified copy of the Judgment of Conviction, the Attorney Discipline Board entered an order directing the respondent to show cause why a final order of discipline should not be entered.
Following the show cause proceedings, which respondent did not attend due to his incarceration, the panel ordered that respondent's license to practice law in Michigan be revoked retroactive to January 8, 1997, the effective date of his automatic interim suspension. Costs were assessed in the amount of $159.50.
