1) Suspension - thirty (30) days; 2) Effective September 20, 1995. Respondent was retained to pursue a debt collection matter. The panel found, by default and respondent's admissions, that respondent neglected the matter; failed to respond his client's inquiries or to keep her informed concerning the status of the matter; abandoned the representation; failed to refund the unearned $1,000 attorney fee; and failed to answer the Formal Complaints.
Respondent's conduct was found to be in violation of MCR 9.104(1)-(4)and(7); and Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1(c); 1.3; 1.4(a); 1.5(a); 1.15(b); 1.16(d); 3.2; 8.1(b); and 8.4(a)and(c).
The panel ordered that respondent be suspended from the practice of law in Michigan for thirty days and make restitution to the complainant in the amount of $1,000. Costs were assessed in the amount of $114.27.
