NOTICE OF REPRIMAND AND RESTITUTION (By Consent)
Case No. 95-11-GA Che A. Karega, P-31387, Southfield, Michigan, by Attorney Discipline Board Tri-County Hearing Panel #74.
1) Reprimand; 2) Effective July 29, 1995. The respondent and the Grievance Administrator filed a stipulation for consent order of discipline pursuant to MCR 9.115(F)(5), which was approved by the hearing panel and the Attorney Grievance Commission.
Respondent was retained and paid $5,000 to institute a legal malpractice action. He pled no contest to allegations that, although he abandoned the representation of his clients in the case, he failed to refund any portion of the $5,000 fee paid.
Respondent's conduct was alleged to be in violation of MCR 9.104(1)-(4); and Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 1.5(a); 1.15(b); 1.16(d); and 8.4(a)and(c).
Respondent agreed to make restitution to the complainants in the amount of $2,000. Costs were assessed in the amount of $210.74.
