NOTICE OF REPRIMAND Case No. 93-177-GA Lawrence E. Schultz, P-20097, Southfield, Michigan, by Attorney Discipline Board Tri-County Hearing Panel #83.
1) Reprimand; 2) Effective December 3, 1994. Respondent was retained to represent a client in a divorce action. The panel found that although respondent initially appeared for a settlement conference, he absented himself from the conference leaving his client without representation, and as a result she entered into a settlement agreement which she believed to be disadvantageous to her. At a hearing conducted before a quorum of two panelists, one panel member found that respondent failed to promptly, properly and sufficiently respond or make explanations for his client's inquiries to him.
Respondent's conduct was found to be in violation of MCR 9.104(1)and(2) by both panel members. One panel member also found respondent's conduct to be in violation of Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 1.4(b).
Costs were assessed in the amount of $1,599.71.
