NOTICE OF REPRIMAND Case Nos. 92-165-GA; 92-176-FA Laurence B. Doman, P-21731, Dearborn, Michigan, by Attorney Discipline Board Tri-County Hearing Panel #29.
1) Reprimand; 2) Effective December 16, 1993. Respondent failed to timely answer the formal complaints, but appeared at the hearings held in Detroit on August 18 and November 24, 1992. Respondent's default was entered, and the panel determined that the default established the allegations of the formal complaint.
Respondent was retained to represent a client in a personal injury action and a related workers' compensation matter, but failed to file a petition for workers' compensation on his client's behalf; failed to respond to numerous inquiries from his client's insurance company, causing the insurance company to suspend payment to his client's doctor's and treating centers, and to close its file concerning his client; failed to keep his client reasonably informed concerning the status of the matter; and failed to answer the request for investigation.
Respondent's conduct was found to be in violation of MCR 9.104(1)-(4)and (7); MCR 9.113(A)and(B)(2); and the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct, 1.1(c); 1.3; 1.4; 3.2; 8.1(b); and 8.4(a)and(c).
Costs were assessed in the amount of $351.08.
