NOTICE OF SUSPENSION Case Nos. 92-21-GA; 92-49-FA Jill M. Kopec, P27552, East Lansing, Michigan, by the Attorney Discipline Board Ingham County Hearing Panel #5.
1) Suspension - 90 days; 2) Effective July 20, 1993. Respondent failed to answer the formal complaints, but appeared at the hearing held in Lansing on May 15, 1992. Respondent's defaults were entered, and the panel determined that the defaults established the allegations of the formal complaints.
Respondent was retained to file a wrongful discharge action, but failed to file the action on her client's behalf; failed to respond to inquiries regarding the status of the case made by her client and her client's subsequent counsel; knowingly made false statements to her client; failed to answer the request for investigation; and failed to answer Formal Complaint 92-21-GA.
Respondent's conduct was found to be in violation of MCR 9.104 (1)-(4),(6)and(7); MCR 9.113(A); MCR 9.113(B)(2); Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1(c); 1.3; 1.4; 3.2; 8.1(b); 8.4(a)and(c); and Canons 1, 6, and 7 of the then-applicable Code of Professional Responsibility, DR 1-102(A)(1),(4)-(6); DR 6-101(A)(3); and DR 7- 101 (A)(1)-(3).
The panel specifically ordered that the suspension in this case run concurrently with the suspension ordered by the Attorney Discipline Board in Case Nos. 91-211-GA; 91-259-FA. Costs were assessed in the amount of $299.29.
