NOTICE OF REPRIMAND (By Consent)
Case No. 92-222-GA Steven J. Parzen, P-23129, Detroit, Michigan, by Attorney Discipline Board Tri-County Hearing Panel #24.
1) Reprimand; 2) Effective May 27, 1993. The respondent and the Grievance Administrator filed a stipulation for consent order of discipline pursuant to MCR 9.115(F)(5), which was approved by the hearing panel and the Attorney Grievance Commission.
Respondent was appointed to represent a defendant in the appeal of his criminal conviction. Respondent pled nolo contendere to charges that he failed to submit the appellate brief to his client for review prior to having filed it in the Court of Appeals; failed to file a timely brief on appeal; failed to advise his client of the Court of Appeals' decision affirming his conviction; and, failed to respond to his clients inquiries regarding the matter.
Respondent's conduct was alleged to be in violation of MCR 9.104(1-4); and the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct, 1.1(a- c); 1.3; 1.4; 3.2; 8.4(a,c). Costs were assessed in the amount of $375.10.
