NOTICE OF REPRIMAND WITH CONDITIONS (By Consent)

Case Nos. 91-247-GA; 92-316-GA Robert E. Slameka, P-20567, Detroit, Michigan, by Attorney Discipline Board Tri-County Hearing Panel #25.

1) Reprimand; 2) Effective March 25, 1993. The respondent and the Grievance Administrator filed a stipulation for consent order of discipline pursuant to MCR 9.115 (F)(5), which was approved by the hearing panel and the Attorney Grievance Commission. Respondent admitted the charges of professional misconduct contained in both formal complaints.

Respondent was appointed to represent 14 criminal defendants, one at trial and 13 in criminal appeals, but neglected nine of those cases, and failed to adequately communicate with his clients or keep his clients reasonably informed concerning the status of the matters in five of those cases.

Respondent's conduct was admitted to be in violation of MCR 9.104(1-4); Canons 1, 6 and 7 of the then-applicable Code of Professional Responsibility, DR 1-102(A)(1,5,6); DR 6-101(A)(2,3); DR 7-101(A)(1-3); the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct, 1.4; 8.4(a,c); and Michigan Supreme Court Administrative order 1981-7, Standards 3; 4; 17 and 18.

Respondent agreed to the following conditions: revision of his practice to assure prompt communications with his clients; improved procedures for written correspondence with clients; full and fair responses to inquiries from the Attorney Grievance Commission; appropriate office support services to assure his ability to provide effective assistance of counsel; continuing legal education; attendance at a seminar on law office management; monitored practice for one year; and complete reorganization of his office operation. Costs were assessed in the amount of $953.07.
