NOTICE OF SUSPENSION Case Nos. 92-122-GA; 92-147-FA William T. Spencer, P-26943, Detroit, Michigan, by Attorney Discipline Board Tri-County Hearing Panel #22.
1) Suspension - two years; 2) Effective February 7, 1993. Respondent failed to answer the formal complaints and failed to appear at the hearings held in Detroit on July 7 and November 5, 1992. Respondent's default was entered, and the panel determined that the default established the allegations of the formal complaints.
Respondent was retained in a workers' compensation matter, but failed to diligently pursue collection and/or clarification of the judgment; failed to keep his client informed concerning the status of the matter; failed to respond to written requests for information from the Attorney Grievance Commission; and failed to timely answer the request for investigation.
Respondent's conduct was found to be in violation of MCR 9.104 (1-4,7); MCR 9.103(C); MCR 9.113(A)and(B)(2); the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct, 1.1(c); 1.3; 1.3; 3.2; 8.1(b); 8.4(a,c); and Canons 1, 6 and 7 of the then-applicable Code of Professional Responsibility, DR 1-102(A)(1,5,6); DR 6-101(A)(3); DR 7-101(A)(1-3). Costs were assessed in the amount of $201.43.
NOTE: Respondent's license to practice law in Michigan has been continuously suspended since February 8, 1992.
