NOTICE OF REPRIMAND (By Consent)
Case No. 91-231-GA Charles R. Stiles, P21028, Lansing, Michigan, by Attorney Discipline Board Livingston County Hearing Panel.
1) Reprimand; 2) Effective July 17, 1992. The respondent and the Grievance Administrator filed a stipulation for consent order of discipline pursuant to MCR 9.115 (F)(5) which was approved by the hearing panel and the Attorney Grievance Commission. Respondent pled nolo contendere to the allegations contained in the formal complaint. The Grievance Administrator acknowledged that respondent's conduct did not involve any personal breach of his client's trust.
The complaint alleged that respondent has condoned, and at times directed his secretary to handle client matters without adequate supervision or assistance from respondent, and as a direct result of respondent's conduct, a bankruptcy matter of a client was neglected resulting in prejudice and harm to his client and the legal system; and, due to the lack of respondent's supervision, his secretary prepared an answer to the request for investigation which contained inaccurate information and signed respondent's name to it, and submitted that answer to the Attorney Grievance Commission on respondent's behalf.
Respondent's conduct was alleged to be in violation of MCR 9.104(1-4); and the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct, 5.3(a,b); 8.4(a,c). Costs were assessed in the amount of $216.51.
