Respondent's license to practice law in Illinois was suspended by the Illinois Supreme Court for a period of one year, commencing January 18, 1990. The Illinois Supreme Court found that respondent collected an excessive fee in violation of Rule 2-106(a) of the Code of Professional Responsibility. In accordance with MCR 9.104, proof of the adjudication of the misconduct in the disciplinary proceedings in Illinois are deemed to constitute conclusive proof of misconduct in proceedings conducted in Michigan.
The hearing panel entered an order suspending respondent's license to practice law in Michigan for a period of 142 days commencing August 30, 1990. The respondent filed a petition for review seeking a decrease in the suspension imposed. In an order dated April 30, 1991, the Attorney Discipline Board entered an order affirming the hearing panel order of suspension and vacating the stay of discipline. Costs were assessed in the amount of $126.91.
