NOTICE OF REPRIMAND (By Consent)
Case No. 90-88-GA Dennis F. Shrewsbury, P-34128, Plymouth, Michigan, by Attorney Discipline Board Washtenaw County Hearing Panel #2.
1) Reprimand; 2) Effective October 23, 1990. The respondent and the Grievance Administrator filed a stipulation for consent order of discipline pursuant to MCR 9.115(F)(5) which was approved by the hearing panel and the Attorney Grievance Commission. The respondent offered his plea of nolo contendere to certain charges contained in the formal complaint.
Respondent was appointed to represent an individual on appeal of a criminal conviction, but failed to timely file a motion for new trial, failed to timely file an appeal, failed to timely file the appellate brief, failed to promptly communicate the status of his efforts to his client, and further neglected the matter after promising to take specific action.
Respondent's conduct was found to be in violation of MCR 9.104(1,2,4); the Code of Professional Responsibility, DR 1-102(A)(1,5); DR 6-101(A)(3); and the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1(c); 1.3; 1.4(a,b); 8.4(a,c). Costs were assessed in the amount of $72.40.
