NOTICE OF REVOCATION ADB 148-87 Thomas P. Smith, P-20713, Detroit, MI by Attorney Discipline Board Oakland County Hearing Panel #5.

1) Revocation; 2) Effective December 24, 1988. The respondent entered a plea of guilty in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on August 13, 1987 to a violation of the Racketeering; Influenced And Corrupt Organizations statute, in violation of 18:USC:1962(c), 1963. In accordance with MCR 9.120(A), respondent's license to practice law was automatically suspended from the date of conviction and he was ordered to show cause before a hearing panel why a final order of discipline should not be entered. The respondent acknowledged that while employed as an assistant prosecuting attorney for Wayne County, he received payments of money for the purpose of influencing matters before a court.

The hearing panel concluded that respondent had engaged in illegal conduct involving moral turpitude, that such conduct was prejudicial to the administration of justice, and that his license to practice law should be revoked. Costs were assessed in the amount of $325.22.
