NOTICE OF REVOCATION ADB 242-88 William A. Haley, Jr., P-14540, Detroit, MI by Attorney Discipline Board Wayne County Hearing Panel #14.

1) Revocation; 2) Effective April 14, 1988. Respondent was convicted in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on April 14, 1988 on acceptance of his plea of guilty to one count of the racketeer influence and corrupt organization statute, 18 U.S.C. 1962(c) and one count of procuring and presentation of a false tax return in violation of 26 U.S.C. 7206(2). The respondent admitted that while acting as a judge of the 36th District Court in Detroit, he accepted a series of bribes to fix traffic ticket and other cases in his court.

In accordance with MCR 9.120, the respondent's license to practice law was automatically suspended on the date of conviction and he was ordered to show cause why a final order of discipline should not be entered. The hearing panel concluded that respondent was convicted of a crime which attacks the foundation of the judicial system and that a revocation of respondent's license to practice law was warranted. Costs were assessed in the amount of $131.00.
