NOTICE OF SUSPENSION ADB 181-87 James R. Gilbert, P-13971, Cheboygan, MI, by the Attorney Discipline Board affirming a hearing panel order of suspension.

1) Suspension - one year; 2) Effective August 14, 1987. Respondent was convicted August 14, 1987 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan of the crime of making false statements in violation of 18 USC 1001. In accordance with MCR 9.120(A), respondent's license to practice law was automatically suspended on the date of conviction. Respondent was ordered to show cause why a final order of discipline should not be entered. In an order filed March 24, 1989 the Attorney Discipline Board affirmed a hearing panel decision that respondent's license to practice law be suspended for one year, effective upon conviction. Costs were assessed in the amount of $239.25.

That notice listed an effective date of September 30, 1987, based upon the date of conviction listed on the U.S. District Court Judgment Order. In accordance with MCR 9.120(A)(1), the automatic suspension was effective August 14, 1987, the date a guilty verdict was returned.
