NOTICE OF SUSPENSION (By Consent)

Case No. 16-59-GA Notice Issued: January 3, 2017 Douglas A. McKinney, P 35430, Auburn Hills, Michigan, by the Attorney Discipline Board Tri-County Hearing Panel #60.

Suspension - 30 Days, Effective December 30,2016 The respondent and the Grievance Administrator filed a stipulation for a consent order of discipline, in accordance with MCR 9.115(F)(5), which was approved by the Attorney Grievance Commission and accepted by the hearing panel. Based upon respondent's plea, admissions and the stipulation of the parties, the panel found that, in his representation of a client who mailed a package containing $24,000 in cash to another person in Arizona which was seized by the local sheriffs department and was attempting to have the funds returned, neglected a legal matter, in violation of MRPC 1.1 (c); provided financial assistance to a client in connection with pending or contemplated litigation in violation MRPC 1.8(e); and engaged in conduct that exposed the legal profession to obloquy, contempt, censure, and/or reproach, in violation of MeR 9.104(2).

In accordance with the stipulation of the parties, the hearing panel ordered that respondent's license to practice law in Michigan be suspended for 30 days. Costs were assessed in the amount of $972.77.
