NOTICE OF SUSPENSION WITH CONDITIONS (By Consent)

Case No. 09-115-GA Notice Issued: June 16, 2010 Antoinette L. Copeland, P 52448, Kingsley, Michigan, by the Attorney Discipline Board Grant Traverse County Hearing Panel #2.

1. Suspension - 1 Year 2. Effective June 16,2010 The respondent and the Grievance Administrator filed a stipulation for a consent order of discipline, in accordance with MCR 9.115(F)(5), containing respondent's admission that she handled a legal mater which she knew or should have known she was not competent to handle without associating with a lawyer who was competent to handle it; handled a legal matter without preparation adequate in the circumstances; neglected a legal matter; failed to act with reasonable diligence and promptness; failed to keep a client reasonably informed and comply promptly with reasonable requests for information; failed to explain a matter to the extent reasonably necessary to permit a client to make informed decisions regarding the representation; failed to take reasonable steps to protect a client's interests upon termination of representation; failed to make reasonable efforts to expedite litigation; failed to answer a request for investigation in conformity with MCR 9.113; and knowingly failed to respond to a lawful demand for information from a disciplinary authority. Respondent's conduct was in violation of MCR 9.104(A)(1)-(4) and (7); and Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1 (a)-(c); 1.3; 1.4(a) and (b); 1.16(d); 3.2; 8.1 (a)(2); and 8.4(a)-(c).

The parties agreed that respondent should be suspended for one year and be subject to conditions relevant to the admitted misconduct. Costs were assessed in the amount of $932.43.
